Comprehensive all-round care for women from conception till birth

Our pregnancy care includes prenatal care from 1st to 9th month followed by antenatal care to mother after delivery. Pregnancy is one of the life’s major events. It is also known as gestation, which is the time during which one or more offspring develops inside a woman. Childbirth typically occurs around 38 weeks from the start of the last menstrual period (LMP). This is just over nine months, where each month averages 30 days. Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters, each lasting for approximately 3 months. The first trimester includes conception, which is when the sperm fertilizes the egg. The fertilized egg then travels down the fallopian tube and attaches to the inside of the uterus, where it begins to form the embryo and placenta. During the first trimester, the possibility of miscarriage (natural death of embryo or fetus) is at its highest. Around the middle of the second trimester, movement of the fetus may be felt. Consulting a doctor when you feel you’ve conceived is very important because we guide you and give the best treatment plan throughout 9-month period which helps in a perfectly healthy baby birth.

Pre-pregnancy care

A pre-pregnancy care visit can help women take steps toward a healthy pregnancy before they get pregnant. Women can help to promote a healthy pregnancy and birth of a healthy baby by taking the following steps before they become pregnant. At S. R. Hospital, our gynaecologists help you in planning pregnancy, assessing women’s nutrition and need for nutritional support, regular immunizations, help you in conditions like diabetes, high BP, etc… Our goal is to ultimately make a women healthy and fit for pregnancy so that we could see lesser complications during the 9th month period.

Antenatal care (ANC)

If you think that you’re pregnant or you missed your period, you should visit the doctor to begin prenatal care. Prenatal visits go on till 9th month period, approximating 1 visit per month. Every visit usually include a physical exam, weight checks, nutritional assessment, evaluating baby growth. Depending on the stage of the pregnancy, we may also do blood tests and imaging tests, such as ultrasound exams. These visits also include discussions about the mother’s health, the fetus’s health, and any questions about the pregnancy.

Postnatal care (PNC)

The postnatal period begins soon after the baby’s delivery and usually lasts six to eight weeks and ends when the mother’s body has nearly returned to its pre-pregnant state. The weeks following birth lay the foundation of long-term health and well-being for both the woman and the baby. Therefore, it is critical to establish a reliable postnatal (afterbirth) period that should be tailored into on-going, continuous, comprehensive care. Effective postpartum care is mandatory to improve both short-term and long-term health consequences of mother and newborn. Our dedicated in-house paediatricians will look after the baby immediately after birth and our gynaecologists will have a regular check on mother till 4 days after birth in the hospital. After discharge, we advise and follow-up on the mother till 2 months after delivery.

High risk pregnancy care and emergency obstetrics

A high-risk pregnancy is one that threatens the health or life of the mother or her baby. Some pregnancies become high risk as they progress, while some women are at increased risk for complications even before they get pregnant for a variety of reasons like high BP, overweight, old maternal age (above 35), diabetes, multiple births, etc… Early and regular prenatal care helps many women have healthy pregnancies and deliveries without complications.
